Minot State Games. This will likely be the place to be over the holidays. The game to see is definitely Four Winds-Minnewaukan against Dickinson Trinity on Wednesday. It’s the 8pm main event. Beulah vs Our Redeemer and North Star against Parshall are two excellent games to lead up to that main event. Then on Thursday Four Winds faces Des Lacs-Burlington, Trinity faces a solid Berthold team that’s off to a nice start, Beulah gets Rugby, and the 2:30 opener is Rolla against Westhope/Newburg.
Tuesday. Light schedule for tomorrow with a few at the Northern State tournament (Mott-Regent and Edgeley-K-M), a few playing in McLaughlin event (Solen and Standing Rock), and Mandan headed to St. Cloud for a solid event in Minnesota. Mandan plays one of the best Class AA teams in Minnesota in their opener. There are also three interesting Class A games as Century may hit the Century mark against Turtle Lake, WF Sheyenne and Fargo Shanley compete in a near must win game based on where they want to be, and West Fargo faces Valley City.
Mandan Holiday Tournament. A Wednesday through Friday production in Mandan with eight teams compete. The first round match-ups Wednesday are: Shiloh Christian vs Wilton/Wing, Flasher vs Bottineau, Grant County vs Turtle Lake/Mercer/McClusky, and New Salem-Almont vs Hettinger-Scranton. The headliner is Shiloh Christian as they are also the favorite. Flasher and Hettinger-Scranton are good challengers who haven’t lost yet and watch sophomore Trapper Jacobs of TLMM who has a ton of game and is one of the better Class B sophomores. Shiloh Christian is the deepest team.
Jamestown Civic Center event. Jamestown has five games rolling out one after another and all are Class B contests. It starts at 1pm on Thursday and ends with the 7pm tip between Strasburg-Zeeland and Sacred Heat (MN) who is 3-3. On Friday Sacred Heart opens with Dakota Prairie followed by LEM vs MPB, Oakes vs Outstate, Kidder County vs Enderlin, and Linton/HMB vs Hatton/Northwood.
Hillsboro Games. Also starting Thursday are the traditional event match-ups in Hillsboro. Norman County West (one of the worst teams in Minnesota) takes on May Port CG in the 1:30 opener followed by a New Rockford-Sheyenne vs Northern Cass game that has many excited. Oak Grove and Park River-FL is at 7:30.
Also Thursday. There are a couple big individual games with Devils Lake and GFRR both trying to prove they can be consistent enough to compete for a title. GFRR is the home team and has played better….If you are in Minot for the Minot State games you can also run over to Minot High and see them crush Williston….Bishop Ryan vs Hazen will grab attention with Wyatt Carr coming off a 29 point, 21 rebound, 6 assists performances beating Bowman County. Bishop Ryan is 2-1 and coming off a one score loss to Shiloh Christian so they are the better team, Hazen has the best player…
Last Game of the Year! At 3:30 on New Year’s Eve Jamestown and Wahpeton will play in the final game of the 2016 calendar year. Jamestown is the home squad. Don’t worry visitors, you will be out of town by 6:30 at the absolute latest and back at school by nine at the latest so you will have time to enjoy New Year’s.
