With the SAC Tournament set to kick off on Monday morning, we take a look at the matchups and the guys we expect to put on a show next week for their respective teams. There will be a lot of talent at Wayne High School and this is an event you don’t want to miss. The two favorites are the Northside Legends and the Snider Panthers.
Team and Player Previews:
FW North Side Legends
Jaylen Butz – Butz has been a double-double machine for the Legends this season and should keep up that production next week in the SAC Tournament
Keion Brooks Jr. – Keion Brooks Jr. is atop the sophomore class in the nation and has been putting up big numbers this season for the Legends
Juan Quarles – Juan is an unsigned and underrated senior that is starting to come into his own with this team and we expect him to help the Legends to the SAC Title game
FW Snider Panthers
Malik Williams – Malik is in the running of Mr. Basketball this season for good reason. The legit seven-footer can do it all. He will need to be at the top of his game to help Snider to the title
Mike Barnfield – Barnfield has started coming into his own as the season has gotten underway. Hot off the buzzer beater to beat North Side, he will be ready to help the Panthers come next week
Jordan Gorman – Gorman has been steadily running this team all season and we except nothing but the same as the Panthers look to take down all opponents in pursuit of the SAC Title
FW Carroll Chargers
Jacob Redding – Jacob Redding is a scoring guard that has been leading the Chargers thus far this season. We expect him to draw a lot of attention from opposing defenses next week.
Jared Hofer – Hofer is a big body down low that has begun to play like everyone was expecting all along. If he can keep himself out of foul trouble, look for Hofer to be a solid piece for Carroll.
Arius Jones – Arius is a 6’4” PG that has great court vision and the length and athleticism to get to the rim and finish. Arius will need to be in complete control of the offense come next week.
FW Bishop Dwenger Saints
Campbell Donovan – Campbell Donovan is a solid senior guard who has been putting in the work to get the results he’s had this season. He will need to be at the top of his game for this tournament.
Conlan Martin – Fresh off the commitment to NAIA powerhouse St. Francis here in FW, Conlan will look to continue his tough play against the top competition of the SAC.
Hayden Smithey – The sophomore wing is still trying to find his role with the Saints but has started producing here in the past few games. Look for Smithey to be a key player for the Saints next week.
FW Wayne Generals
Demarea Dial – Damarea has had a strong start to the season and is known for his shooting ability and effort on the defensive end of the floor. They will need all the shooting they can get from him next week.
Craig Young – Young is a pure athlete with the ability to finish inside over defenders. The Generals will need double-double like games from Young to make a run at the SAC Title.
FW South Side Archers
Trejean Didier – Didier can light it up from deep in a hurry and work well on off-ball screens. He will need to help out in other categories come next week for the Archers.
Cortney Shorter – Cortney Shorter is a solid wing for South Side and will need to be a strong defender and effort guy for the Archers next week as they look to make a run at the SAC Title.
FW Bishop Luers Knights
J.J. Foster – The senior guard has been a consistent name in the paper for the Knights this season and will need to fill the stat lines next week for the Knights.
Anton Berry – Berry has been working putting out numbers all season this year. Luers will need All-State like games from Anton to make a little run at the SAC Title. Don’t underestimate this Luers team.
Ray Walker – Ray Walker has been a great compliment to Foster and Berry this season as the three of them lead the team in just about every category. Will need production from him next week.
FW Northrop Bruins
Richard Robertson – Richard has exploded onto the basketball scene in FW this season and is fresh off a buzzer beater. Robertson will need to be the leader for the Bruins next week in the SAC Tournament.
Ta’von Johnson – Johnson will need to be athletic, long, and full of energy for the Bruins next week. The forward gets up quick and the Bruins will need him in double figures in rebounds.
FW Homestead Spartans
Jack Ferguson – The leader of the senior trio will need to be everything that he’s capable of. Ferguson can fill it up from all three levels on the floor and will need to be at the top of his game next week.
Brandon Durnell – Durnell will need to be a rim protector for the Spartans and a rebounding machine during the SAC Tournament. Durnell is capable of averaging a double-double and may need too.
Parker Manges – Rounding out the senior trio, Manges is the floor stretching shooter. He can get his shots off catch and shoot or off the dribble. He will need to be good on the defensive end next week as well.
FW Concordia Cadets
Jadon Dance – Jadon is currently leading the Cadets in minutes and scoring as a sophomore. He will need to step up big for the Cadets next week to make a run at the SAC Title.
Larson Ashford – Larson Ashford is rounding out his high school career doing a little bit of everything this year. They will need him to step up his production in the scoring column and rebounding next week.
