Triton Central kept it close through the half but Jeff Reynolds got going in the second half and helped to put this one away. Reynolds scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Eric Moenkhaus led all scorers with 18 points. Jacen Lands led Triton Central with 13 points and 6 rebounds.
MVP: Jeff Reynolds (Greenwood)
Reynolds was a little slow to start but really got going there in the second half scoring 15 points on 6/13 shooting and didn’t attempt a three-pointer. He also took the majority of his shots away from the rim. His ball handling and agility have improved and he’s a little better at creating with the ball in his hands. He had a nice pull-back jumper from 12′ that he just missed but it was impressive regardless. He was also showing some toughness, willing to get into the paint and fight for boards, racking up enough to get a double-double.
Best Offensive Performance: Eric Moenkhaus (Greenwood)
Known as more of a shooter, Eric was really good attacking the rim. I watched Greenwood early last season and all Moenkhaus did was shoot 9 or so three-pointers. This time, near everything was on a drive at the rim. He did go 2/4 from three but also went 8/16 from the field and dropped 18 points. He was the most consistent production from start to finish and got after it early to keep some distance for Greenwood. Was great to see a little bit of everything from him.
Best Defensive Performance: Max Raker (Greenwood)
Raker was one of a few Greenwood players that were really good defensively in this one. He only had a pair of rebounds but he was kind of in the middle of a lot of Triton Central’s turnovers. He’s filled out his frame a bit more and maybe added an inch since we last saw him and that helps to allow him to be a bit tougher on defense. He also had a really good offensive game scoring 11 points on 5/10 shooting.
Best Guy Off The Bench: Jacen Lands (Triton Central)
Probably the most inriguing player we saw was Jacen Lands. The 6’6+ forward had quite a few good plays and was doing all of it with his back to the basket. He showed the ability to score with either hand and can spin both ways. He’s more comfortable with his right hand and does it with some fluidity. He’s not a raw prospect but has a ton of room to still grow. Had 13 points on 5/8 shooting and grabbed 6 rebounds. Was Triton’s leading scorer coming off the bench.
Best Underclassmen: Wyatt Felling (Triton Central)
Felling is a thin 5’10 guard that has some upside as he adds on weight and strength. He’s a solid lead guard who has a little bit of a push shot now but has great touch and if you give him enough space, he’s going to make it. Had 8 points on 3/7 shooting. However, he’s got a little more to his game as well. Showed a nice floater in the lane and was able to slip into the paint a few times. Could be an offensive-oriented lead guard down the road.
