Lawrence Central played decent defense but Carmel was hitting everything that they shot. Carmel ended up with the victory 65-29.
Leading scorer: Carmel: Sterling Brown 16. Lawrence Central: Wesley Jordan 10.
Leading rebounder: Carmel: John-Micheal Mulloy 7. Lawrence Central: Wesley Jordan 5.
MVP: Sterling Brown (Carmel)
Brown was the leader in this one for Carmel. He moved the ball really sharply and shot it nice as well. He set the tone early for Carmel and they never really let Lawrence Central into the game.
Best offensive performance: Wesley Jordan (Lawrence Central)
Jordan was the high scorer for Lawrence Central and he was pretty impressive when he got the ball. In the half-court he had a few nice moves and looked to score when he got the ball. Was impressive with the touches that he had.
Best defensive performance: John-Micheal Mulloy (Carmel)
Mulloy is a 6’10 post player that stood out tonight for his defense. Even though he fouled out, they were all on touchy fouls, he really shut down the Lawrence Central drives. He’s long and looked really good on the pick-and-roll defense.
Best under-the-radar performance: PJ Baron (Carmel)
Baron attacked the boards tonight on the way to a game high seven rebounds. He looked good with the ball as well handling it and making good decisions. Scored seven points as well getting to the rim.
Best guy off the bench: Jalen Whack (Carmel)
Whack came off the bench and scored eight points. He hustled and gave great effort throughout his time on the floor including a coast-to-coast and-1 finish.
Best Shooter: Sterling Brown (Lawrence Central)
Brown was pretty efficient in this one shooting the ball. His jumper looked pretty good and he hit four threes on six or seven tries.
Best underclassman: Luke Heady (Carmel)
Besides Mulloy and Jordan, Heady was the best underclassman on the court. He came off the bench and made some great plays. He led the team once he was on the court and you can tell he is a coach’s son.
Best rebounder: John-Micheal Mulloy (Carmel)
Mulloy is a great rebounder and he grabbed everything that fell his way tonight. He was strong pulling the ball down and had great success on the offensive boards as well.
Best takeaway: Carmel is pretty deep this year and they showed it in this one. They are quick and strong with the ball. Their guard play is solid and Mulloy inside will compete with everyone. Lawrence Central is weak this year and will struggle with fundamental teams that can shoot the ball. Their quickness won’t solve everything this year.
