Last year, Smith mostly played the point, but this year he has moved over to an off-guard position. He is a playmaker that can get his teammates involved and is a lockdown defender.
Park Hill head coach Chad Jones says Smith is a stat sheet stuffer, capable of get 10 rebounds, scoring 20 points or handing out several assists.
“He is a special player and can play so many different roles for us,” Jones said. “Last year he played the point guard position a lot and this year he has played more of an off guard spot.
“But to have a senior that can step up late and take control of the game, knock down free throws or run a set and defensive rebound — he just does so many different things well.”
Smith spent the offseason competing for Team Rush and says he spent the time getting better and the things he was good at and working on his weakness. And, over course, being seen by college coaches.
He does not currently hold any offers, but he has taken visits to Missouri State , Northern Iowa and has recieved interest from South Dakota, Drake , SEMO and Central Arkansas. Smith said he has been in contact with several JUCOs about playing a year then moving on to the Division I level.
Smith said he has a date against rival Park Hill South circled on his schedule and says the expectations are high this season for a loaded Park Hill squad.
“My high school team we have a lot of talent and we want win every tournament we are in also we wanna win districts and state,” Smith said.
