The Lancers were 21-8 last season, but graduated several key players from that squad. Flinn returns after averaging 11.1 points and nailing 33 3-pointers last season.
“Our main focus was to come together as team because it is something that we’ve struggled with, but overall we’ve definitely came a long way since then,” Flinn said. “This season we lost a couple of seniors that contributed a lot so we have a lot of newcomers who will fill in very well. We have a lot of expectations. We’ve made sectionals three years in a row so we are hoping to get back to there.”
Among the highlights on the schedule for Flinn and Lafayette is a showdown against Webster Groves, widely considered among the top Class 5 teams in the St. Louis area this season.
“This season I look forward to playing against Courtney Ramey because he’s a young talent and phenomenal,” Flinn said. “It will be fun to go up against him to see what I can do.”
Flinn says his dad has been the biggest influence on his game and that he enjoys watching Steph Curry play basketball.
“My dad has always pushed me my whole life to go as far as I can with basketball,” he said. “I love to watch Steph Curry because he is simply amazing. I try to implement my game with Kyrie Irving because he creates his own shots and loves to get others involved.”
Flinn played his summer basketball with the St. Louis Gym Rats Elite, which featured several players from Lafayette and the surrounding area.
“We came up with a bunch of kids from the Lafayette area who were small and undersized, but were still able to come out with a bunch of wins because we knew what to do with the basketball at all times,” Flinn said.
Although he currently does not have any Division I or Division II offers, Flinn has received interest from several Division III schools, including Central College, Hope College and Illinois Western. He recently took visits to both Central College and Hope College for basketball.
