A 5’10” point guard, Davis is one of the top players for one of the top Class 3 teams in the state. He gets his business done in an old-school manner complete with a mid-range jumper and a hard-core defensive intensity. One of the people who has played a big part in Davis’ development is assistant coach Preston Thomas, who was Ritter’s head coach during its hey-day in the 1990’s. He returned to Ritter last season to be apart of Randy Reed’s staff.
“Coach Thomas is an old-school coach,” Davis said. “He taught me how do stuff in an efficient manner. He showed me how to take less dribbles and get to spots on the floor easier. As for my mid-range game, it’s a lost art now and I feel that sets me apart from a lot of players. Nobody wants to do it.”
Davis has been a big part of Ritter’s quick 4-0 start, which included the championship of the Borgia Turkey Tournament. Through four games, Davis is averaging 13 points, four assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 73 percent from the free throw line. He earned many quality minutes as a freshman last season on a 23-5 team that advanced to the state quarterfinals.
“I learned a lot last year from our seniors,” Davis said. “They taught me how to stay poised and keep playing hard. I try to play aggressive on defense and lead my team.”
Davis spent the summer playing with the Jets-Ramey United 15U team.
