A skilled 6’1 shooting guard, Hanson can do a little bit of everything. He can handle the ball a little and is a terrific outside shooter. And he plays an unselfish brand of basketball.
“I would describe my play as unselfish and always looking to get my teammates involved as much as I can,” he said.
Hanson spent the offseason playing for the Kansas City Paces and also worked out with Pure Sweat. He says he focused on improving his outside shot and finishing through contact.
“Those were the two areas I really focused on but I also worked on improving my ball handling and just having more of an aggressive mindset when playing,” he said.
Liberty North opened the season by advancing to the championship game of its home tournament where they fell to Park Hill in a hard fought game. After going 25-4 last year, Liberty North is looking to several new faces to fill big voids in the line-up.
“I think our team this year has a change to be really good,” Hanson said. “We lost a lot of seniors last year but I feel that this years team has great chemistry and we just play good together. I think we will surprise some people this year.”
Hanson said he is looking forward to a date with the Eagles’ crosstown rivals Liberty on Jan. 27, a game that always brings high drama.
“I look forward to playing our cross town rivals this year because the games between us are always fun and loud,” he said. “It is also fun to play against Jalen Lewis who is a really good player.”
A Kansas Jayhawks’ fan, Hanson says his two older brothers have been the biggest influence on his basketball career.
“Just because of how successful they were and how great their teams were when they played at Liberty North,” he said.
Hanson says he does not currently hold any offers and has not drawn much recruiting interest yet.
