Continue ReadingLucas Kroft has come off his recent injury with a vengeance and the 6’4” sophomore has lead Blackhawk Christian to the top of the Class A rankings. Kroft was recently sidelined with a hamstring injury that occurred towards the end of the summer session. He played this summer with the Spiece Indy Heat EYBL Program on their 15U and 16U rosters. Kroft also started as a freshman for Blackhawk Christian this year but is now becoming the leader for that team.
“The beginning of the season has gone well for us.” Blackhawk is out to a quick start knocking off some of Class A’s top opponents and posting a 4-1 record. Lucas Kroft has been a major part in the early success. He is currently averaging over 20 points a game and has had at least one game with 30 points this year. Kroft is never content with his performance or game. Post 30-point game, he was back in the gym that night working on his ball handling.
“My goal for this season is to average around 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 5-6 assists.” Not only is this a tough goal for a sophomore, but he is also looking to lead the team out of their regional that they lost in last year and to a state title.
Lucas is a solid combo guard with the ability to play PG through PF. His length, strength, and athleticism are unmatched by most of his opponents and he is using that to his advantage. His court vision makes him a great distributor of the ball and he has the ball handling ability to bring the ball up the floor against the other team’s best defender. Not only is his skill set developed, but he understands the different between good shots and great shots. “My goal for the team is to make it to state. I just think we need to get better defensively as a team and find our shots on offense.”
Coming back from injury and doing what he’s done at the start of the season has shocked quite a few people. Lucas saw this as an opportunity to work on other aspects of the game. He is a student of the game and knows where he needs to put in more work. Coming back to the game after being gone for a few months, Kroft understands that it’s going to take extra work to get his footwork and quickness back but he hasn’t shown any sign of slowing down yet this season.
Along with working on his physical shape, Lucas has been honing in on some of his moves. “I’ve been focusing on my moves so that I have different ways to get my shot off in different situations”. Lucas is a good shooter from deep and has the athleticism to rise above the defense and finish at the rim. His versatility is hard to stop for most teams at the high school level. His passion and drive will take him far in the game of basketball.
Lucas has also been reaping the benefits of his work as he has started to see his recruiting take off. Schools have started showing interest and if he keeps up with this level of play, many will join the early crowd. Keep an eye out for 2019 combo guard Lucas Kroft out of Fort Wayne this season as he aims to lead his team to the state title.
