The 6’0” guard ran this past summer with OPS under former IU guard Matt Roth and has transferred schools this season from Northrop to Blackhawk Christian. For him, it’s been an easy transition thanks to the similar styles of OPS and Blackhawk. Roth had coached at Blackhawk previously.
Mull also played with teammate Drake Thompson over the summer and that has helped his transition period to Blackhawk. “We play much of the same style and that has made my transition from Northrop to Blackhawk that much easier.” Blackhawk is off to a great start this season and Mull has been a major part of that with his leadership ability.
“I think I bring a calming sense.” Mull shows poise even during the most stressful situations and his attitude carries over to the rest of his teammates. He is a true point guard in terms of being a floor general and a distributor of the ball. Jalan will lead Blackhawk in assists this season with ease but is also a scoring threat with his aggressive demeanor attacking the basket and ability to knock down open jumpers.
As Mull continues to expand his skill set, he has been working hard on his jump shot to take his game to the next level. “I’m working on my jump shot and pull up game to continue knocking down shots”.
As efficient as Jalan is on the offensive end, he is also a threat on defense. He has incredibly quick hands and his footwork is great. His basketball IQ also puts him in the right spot at the right time both on ball and off ball defense.
“Ultimately our main goal this year is a state title”. Blackhawk is currently ranked No. 1 in Class A basketball and a state title is not out of the question. If Jalan can continue to lead this team and keep them as a tight-knit group, they will be able to make a long post-season run to a state title.
“We all know each other’s strengths and where each player is best on the floor.” Jalan has the PG intuition that helps him find his open teammates in positions where they are most comfortable and effective. Jalan understands each of his teammates strengths and puts them in positions where they are more effective and efficient with the ball.
Mull is currently receiving contacts from a range of schools ranging from DI schools Wisconsin University and Central Michigan University to NAIA powerhouse Saint Francis and Indiana Wesleyan University.
Jalan has started to show up on more programs radars here recently. Even if he is a late bloomer, his talent and willingness to get better will take him far with the game of basketball. Keep an eye out for Jalan Mull of Blackhawk Christian this year to help lead that team to a state title.
