Last season, Cameron Norman was one of the top scorers for Our Lady Good Counsel, a WCAC team out of Maryland. Two weeks into this season, the senior guard has been lighting it up for Eastern View, and he joins the likes of fellow senior Anias Saunders and junior D’Ago Hunter to form one of the best backcourts in all of 4A.
When we went to see Eastern View play Chancellor last Tuesday, Norman finished with a game high 27 points on 7-for-8 shooting from deep. After the game however, he only wanted to talk about the team effort, especially on the defensive end.
“I mean we come out with the mindset of playing defense and winning the game,” Norman said. “I fed off of my teammates, they did a good job finding me early, so it’s just coming with the mindset of being ready to play and it started on the defensive side and that’s what triggered my offense.”
The 5’10” combo guard, who claims interest from multiple schools at each level, makes an already competitive Eastern View team even more dangerous. While his ability to shoot the ball is his strongest asset, Norman is also a very capable ball handler that can handle pressure and break his defender down off the bounce.
However, it’s more than his skill set that Norman believes will help this Eastern View team get over the hump.
“I think I can help them with leadership at the point guard position to help lead them to a state championship and win it this year,” he said. “It doesn’t even matter if I’m on or off the ball, I’m just a player that likes to lead my team.”
He’s not only successful on the court, he’s successful in the classroom as well. Norman sports a 4.0 GPA, and he earned that at one of the better academic schools in the Maryland area.
With his winning mindset both on and off the court, Norman says there’s only one thing that is on his mind.
“Championship and helping my teammates win, that’s my complete mindset.”
