Greencastle led at the half 28-21 but Crawfordsville’s shooters took over the second half and outscored Greencastle 33-10.
Leading scorers: Greencastle: Colin York 14, J.T. Matthews 9, Nick Costin 7. Crawfordsville: Devin Guard 13, Cameron Harris 12, James Gineris 11.
Leading rebounders: Greencastle: J.T. Matthews 6, Devin Bollman 4. Crawfordsville: Trent Johnson 16, James Gineris 6.
MVP: Devin Guard (Crawfordsville)
He gave his team the lead in the second half and sparked them with a few threes. He had a solid all around game. He’s a really good spot up shooter and it showed tonight with three longballs.
Best offensive performance: Colin York (Greencastle)
York is known primarily as a spot up shooter due to his size but tonight he led both teams in points with 14. He did it all for Greencastle getting to the basket and hitting a few floaters in the lane. He created a little for himself tonight, which was new.
Best defensive performance: Jack Sommer (Crawfordsville)
Being the front man in a 2-2-1 half court trap is tough duty but the small lead guard handled it well. He forced Greencastle guards into uncomfortable spots and forced multiple turnovers. I really liked the intensity he brought to the defensive end.
Best under-the-radar performance: Nick Costin (Greencastle)
While he did not fill the stat sheet he has the potential to do so. Tonight he played a really solid game and kept his team in it until late. He was also a vocal leader on the court which is tough when your team falls behind.
Best guy off the bench: Daulton Bridgewater (Crawfordsville)
Daulton had a nice little eight point showing off the bench. He was one of the two main bench players and played quite a bit. He was a spark as well playing good defense and helping on the scoreboard.
Play of the game: Devin Guard hits a three to take the lead.
Once Guard hit the shot to take the lead the whole team rallied around each other. After this, the game was on ice.
Best intangibles: J.T. Matthews (Central Christian)
Matthews was the leader on the court for most of the game. A guy any coach would love to have especially as a 6’7 inside guy who leads the team.
Best underclassman: Gavin Bollman (Greencastle)
After moving back to Indiana from Oklahoma, the 6’5 sophomore saw some time on the floor. He was pretty decent in his first game with four points and six rebounds. I liked the way he moved his body around in the paint.
Best Rebounder: Trent Johnson (Crawfordsville)
The 6’2 senior had 16 rebounds in an amazing performance. He is one of the best athletes on the floor in every game and it showed tonight as he was flying everywhere
Best Takeaway: Greencastle has the pieces and the height to be competitive in 3A, they just need to get tougher and have a few more players step up to score the ball. Crawfordsville as we saw tonight can be a really bad team, but also a really good team. They rely on the outside shot and when it’s not falling they will struggle especially with their lack of height.
