Teams: Edgewood, Northview, Brown County, Owen Valley, West Vigo, Sullivan
Last Season: This Sectional last year was really solid from top to bottom and when you consider that there was only a 9-game difference between the best and the worst team, you can easily see how competitive this group was. Edgewood led the Sectional with 18 wins but ultimately lost to Northview in the Sectional Championship game. Northview went into Sectionals with only 10 wins and made it to the Regional Semifinal against Tri-West. Brown County, Owen Valley, and even West Vigo finished the season with slightly better records. Sullivan was the only team with less than 10 wins.
Contenders For 2016-17: This season, look for a dramatic shift at the top of this group. Edgewood is depleted and Northview comes in as the favorite. Northview has the size and talent to go deep in the 3A tournament this year as Jensen Kellett (6’6) and Drew Lumsdon (6’8) will be the seniors this team will lean on. Northview only returns Cooper Bybee and Chayton Howard. West Vigo is pretty much in tact from last season but they have to make the most of their talent, something they have yet to do. Brown County loses half their roster again and they should still be expected to compete as they do this pretty much every year. Josh Cochran gives them a ton of size inside at 6’10. Owen Valley and Sullivan will likely struggle this season.
Players to Watch: The Northview duo in the frontcourt are the guys to watch. Both Jensen Kellett and Drew Lumsdon have a chance to be really good and if they both start playing at a high level, this team has a chance to be very good in 2016-17. Kellett provides size on the wing who can shoot and handle the ball into the interior. Lumsdon is you face-up four man who is starting to show more strength and aggressiveness. Their size in 3A can be difficult for other 3A teams like Attucks or Brebeuf Jesuit if they can make it that far.
