Teams: Bloomington South, Columbus East, Bloomington North, Columbus North, Shelbyville, East Central
Last Season: Last year, you saw Bloomington South do what they have done for quite some time, win the Sectional. However, they got unlucky when they met New Albany in Semistate at Seymour and fell in a tough game. The rest of the Sectional struggles last year. Columbus North got off to a bad start and recovered a bit at the end. Columbus East had a stretch where they went 5-2 but really went down at the end of the year. Overall, everyone had at least eight wins which isn’t a terrible season but the gap from Bloomington South to the next best team was quite a ways away.
Contenders For 2016-17: This season, look for Bloomington South to continue their reign with a little bit more competition at the top. South loses Tucker Blackwell and Hunter Lloyd but have a great group in Josh Hall, Phillip King, Chance Coyle, and Trey Bomba to go along with a great freshman class. Columbus North returns almost everything and if they can keep it going like they were at the end of the year, they could be a true competitor. Bloomington North should be slightly improved even after losing their starting point guard in Malik Laffoon. Musa Jallow has the chance to be even better. Shelbyville doesn’t lose a ton and has their trio of John Lux, Brock Blackwell, and Zach Kuhn ready to go. Columbus East and East Central are the ones that are the possibilities of regressing a bit. They both lose some really key pieces and while there is still talent on their roster it would be tough.
Players to Watch: There are a number of players to be excited about in this strong Sectional. The first one to watch is Musa Jallow. He’s been gradually getting better and you look to see if he can just take off which could make Bloomington North really good. The next is Alex King of Columbus North. In order for Columbus North to be improved, they have to have King be like he was a year ago, before the injury.
