Continue ReadingEthan Brittain-Watts is a quickly blossoming PG in the Class of 2019. The 6’1” guard has quickly seen his recruiting take off over the spring and summer sessions. Ethan started his entire freshman season at Culver Academy and is looking to lead the team this year. Brittain-Watts ran with Spiece Indy Heat 15U EYBL this past summer. He is begging to see the hard-work off the court pay off.
This is what Ethan had to say about this past summer, “I think I got a lot smarter playing the game and understanding when to make the right plays for myself and for my teammates.” Brittain-Watts showed that he was capable of creating his own shot and also creating off the bounce for teammates when it was needed. “I had a group around me that forced me to lead more”. He was quick to recognize the ability of his teammates and he put them in situations where they would succeed.
Brittain-Watts has interest from several DI programs heading into his sophomore year. This schools include: Purdue University, the University of Wisconsin, the University of New Mexico, and the University of Arkansas. He has taken visits to Purdue and Wisconsin. This is what he had to say about the Purdue visit, “I liked the personal workout plan at Purdue as well as the practice they had me sit through.” This is what he said about the Wisconsin visit, “I liked the culture and atmosphere at Wisconsin. They have some of the same traits that I see at Culver.” He said that both Coach Painter of Purdue and Coach Gard of Wisconsin were interested in keeping in touch and continuing the recruiting process. As he continues to progress and get better, he will see more of these visits coming from collegiate programs.
In the off season, Brittain-Watts has been focusing on getting stronger. “The higher the level of play, the more intense and stronger I have to get”. He knows that if he wants to play at the next level, he will need to be stronger and quicker. One of the biggest strengths to his game is his basketball IQ. “Being a combo guard requires your basketball IQ to be higher because you have to know how to make the right plays.” Brittain-Watts has a natural knack for scoring the basketball and is starting to use his ability to help create shots for others.
“I’ve been focusing on taking contact and finishing different ways around the rim”. He has the ability to get to the rim and finish amongst the bigger bodies because of his length. Ethan uses his length well on defense to disrupt vision and get into passing lanes. Brittain-Watts also looks like he has a few inches left to grow. Brittain-Watts is beginning to use his IQ and skills to become a threat off ball-screen action as well.
Heading into his sophomore year with Culver, Ethan is focused on increasing the number of wins for the program and doing the little things to help them win. He wants to step into a leadership role as the PG and lead his team to a sectional title and deep into the post season.
Be on the lookout for Ethan Brittain-Watts of the 2019 Class as he begins to make a name for himself. As he begins to recognize his potential, he will mature and fill bigger shoes with Culver and Spiece.
