Despite playing varsity since his freshman season, he’s been a role player at most for the Huskies. But still, he’s been able to pick up initial interest from Division I and Division II programs.
His switch to Kingdom Hoops 16U Elite in July seemed to boost his recruitment plenty.
“I got letters from Belmont, they’ve been interested in me lately. And then Minnesota State (Mankato), Sioux Falls, and Western Illinois — those four schools have been contacting me since July. Just a lot of handwritten letters is what they’ve been sending me,” said Thedford, who is anxious to get his first offer.
“I really want to improve my game so I can get some offers on the table. I’m looking to play a lot better next summer.”
This past summer Thedford was working to improve his offense.
“I’ve been working on my shot a lot and my finishing around the basket, and that’s been coming along well,” said Thedford. “I’m still solid on the defensive end, and I’ve really been working on my scoring and getting better at that.”
And after coming off the bench as a defensive stopper and rebounder last season, his offense will be crucial to the Huskies’ success this winter.
“I’m going to play a much bigger role than I did last year. I didn’t really have a big role last year, but this year I’m going to have a huge role,” he said. “I’m going to score the ball a lot this season, and average way more points than I averaged last season.”
And after making early exits in the state tournament each of his past two seasons, Thedford says his Huskies are ready to make it to the championship game, and win it, this season.
“This team is a lot different than our past teams. We have have a different type of style of play. We’re all solid at our positions and we’re fighters, we don’t ever give up, we love to compete,” said Thedford. “I feel like we’ll be able to now only get down there, but to win a state championship, I have a really strong belief in that.”
