A smooth guard that has a quick release and smooth shot from long distance, Evans is a big part of one of the Kansas City area’s top backcourts as he teams with fellow 2018 guard Ochai Agbaji.
“I think I’m a really good play maker and I see the court really well,” Evans said. “I can space the floor with my shooting and I try to be as good a teammate as I can.”
Evans played his summer ball with MoKan Select and says he spent the offseason working on getting bigger and stronger.
“Over the summer we all focused on getting in the weight room and getting bigger,” Evans said. “We have a lot of little guards so we were focused on getting bigger and getting out and running and staying in condition.”
Evans says he has not yet drawn much college attention and is focused on the upcoming season for now. Oak Park is coming off a tough season a year ago, but has numerous players returning with key varsity experience.
“This season we have a lot of returning guys, we have had the same starting lineup for the past three years,” he said. “We have a lot of experience and with the new coach, we have high expectations and we should be able to compete with everyone that we play.”
Evans said he is looking forward to playing 2018 guard T.J. Babikir of North Kansas City.
“He put it on us last year,” Evans said. “It has been a competitive rivalry because we know them and they know us.”
Evans, who comes from a basketball family, says his father has been the biggest influence on his basketball career.
“Everyone in my family have played basketball and my dad has had the biggest influence on me and taught me most of what I know,” Evans said.
He says his favorite team in the Lakers and he enjoys watching DeAngelo Russell play.
“I like his playmaking ability and his style,” Evans said.
