Richard Robertson of Northrop High School has seen his recruiting begin to take-off but has big plans for the upcoming season. Robertson ran with Spiece Indy Heat Red 17U this summer and saw his game continue to develop.
Robertson will undoubtedly be the focus of many opposing teams scouting reports but he is looking beyond being the leading scorer. He wants the team to come together and learn from each mistake. “Communication is key. In my eyes, we don’t take losses. We always learn from our mistakes and strive on.”
“I want to be the best leader on and off the court”. Richard is looking to take his team to new heights this season and knows that it all starts with a strong foundation. He wants to compete for the SAC Title as well as make a State Title run.
Robertson has been in contact with the University of Jamestown, Spring Arbor University, and Cornerstone University. Richard is looking for a competitive team that is the best fit for him. “I’m a scoring point guard that lives off quickness.” He is pushing himself to new levels to increase his exposure and potentially college offers.
Richard has been working more with resistance training and his core strength. He is an athletic guard with a strong body to finish around the rim and through contact.
“I’m focusing more on being a point guard this year. Teams know I can score being that I was very consistent last year.” Robertson is looking to create more off the dribble for his teammates this year.
Richard is quick off the dribble and has a strong mid-range pull-up game. He has the ability to keep defenders off balance which allows him to let the game come naturally to him. As the leader, Robertson is aware of what he needs to do for his team this year. “I have to step up and make things happen.” He is a major key to Northrop’s success this season.
Although he has had to play more of a scoring role in the past, Robertson wants to be known as a true point guard and this is his key focus this season. Be on the lookout for Richard Robertson out of Fort Wayne to turn some heads as he begins his senior season.
