Below is a look of ten things that stood out.
MVP | JASON AIGNER | WOODSON ’17
Jason Aigner scored 12 of his team-high 15 points in the second half. The senior, who is considered a team leader, converted five of six free throws in the second half.
PLAY OF THE GAME
Not one play in particular stood out in this one. Woodson did convert 11 of their 16 fourth quarter foul shot attempts to help secure the victory.
BEST OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | MARKOS EYOB | ROBINSON ’17
Markos Eyob finished the game strong after a relatively slow start. The unsigned senior guard scored 16 of his 22 in the second half, including 10 in the final frame. Eyob used his quickness to consistently keep defenders off balance and hit eight of his nine foul shot attempts.
BEST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | SIMON MULAA | WOODSON ’17
Available senior Simon Mulaa deserves credit for his defense on Eyob and the other Rams in the early stages of this contest. The athletic guard was active and alert both on and off the ball where he came up with several deflections and steals.
BEST GUY OFF THE BENCH | BRIAN HENNESSEY | WOODSON ’18
Brian Hennessey scored 10 points off the bench, all of which came from the foul line. Hennessey didn’t miss a shot from the charity stripe, including six of six in the fourth quarter.
BEST INTANGIBLES | JASON AIGNER | WOODSON’ 17
Jason Aigner is a joy to watch. He plays with excellent effort and always has a smile on his face. His competitiveness is evident and his positive attitude is contagious.
BEST UNDER-THE-RADAR PERFORMANCE | MATTHEW URBACH | WOODSON ’18
Junior shooting guard Matthew Urbach really has a chance to be one of the biggest stock risers in his class. He is very crafty, rebounds well from his position, and can shoot the lights out at 6’3. Urbach is also a sneaky athlete with improved strength and quickness.
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | CODY MAINS | WOODSON ’19
Cody Mains came in off the bench and gave the Cavs good minutes inside, showing his potential as a forceful inside presence. The 6’6 sophomore has a good motor and as he continues to grow into his body will only get better with experience.
BEST PASSER | SIMON MULAA | WOODSON ’17
We don’t have the official stats available, but it’s a safe bet to say that Simon Mulaa led the game in assists. Mulaa used his explosiveness and skill to consistently get into the paint and create chances.
BEST SHOES | MATTHEW URBACH | WOODSON ’18
Urbach gets the nod tonight for breaking out these Air Jordan Tinker Alternate Olympic 7’s. These kicks were released in early August to coincide with the 2016 Olympics.
