POY Candidates: St. Louis
In the last of five state-wide breakdowns — central Missouri, southeast Missouri southwest Missouri and Kansas City — we break down the POY candidates from the southeast region of the state.
Karrington Davis, 6-6, F, Chaminade (2018)
Talented forward who is ready to step into some big shoes for the Red Devils. Played in 29 games last season and averaged 3.5 points, but is coming off a strong summer and is poised for a breakout season.
Daniel Farris, 6-0, PG, Vashon (2017)
One of the St. Louis area’s top point guards, Farris averaged 13 points, four rebounds and nearly five assists per game last season. A smooth left hander, Farris shot over 50 percent from 3-point range last year.
Brandon McKissic, 6-2, PG, SLUH (2017)
SLUH has had quite a run in recent years and McKissic, who has committed to UMKC, has been a big part of their success. He averaged a team-high 15 points per game last season and chipped in 4.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.
Gavin Pinkley, 6-8, F, Hillsboro (2018)
Has picked up a lot of recruiting interest over the past year and currently holds several D1 offers. He averaged 18 points and nearly 10 rebounds per game as a sophomore and helped Hillsboro to a 21-7 season.
Courtney Ramey, 6-3, PG, Webster Groves (2018)
One of the state’s hottest recruits, Ramey will be a big part of a Webster Groves squad that is poised for a big season. He and fellow 2018 Carte’area Gordon will form an impressive 1-2, inside-out punch in the second half of the season once Gordon is eligible.
Levi Stockard, 6-9, PF, Vashon (2017)
After recently making a commitment to Kansas State, Stockard enters the upcoming season as one of the St. Louis area’s most decorated players. Vashon is coming off a Class 4 state title, and Stockard is a big reason why, averaging 11 points and nearly 10 rebounds per game.
Ryan Stipanovich, 6-6, SF, DeSmet (2017)
Skilled wing who can handle the ball, shoot and make plays, Stipanovich has committed to Bradley University, but will have to navigate a tough schedule and league slate.
Torrence Watson, 6-5, G, Whitfield (2018)
Gifted guard helped lead Whitfield to the Class 3 Final Four last season. He averaged 18 points and 4.6 rebounds per game last year as a sophomore and shot nearly 50 percent from the field.
Wyatt Yess, 6-8, PF, Parkway West (2017)
The Yale commit is a strong, physical interior player who is coming off a big junior season. Averaged 15 points and nearly 9 rebounds per game last season and helped Parkway West to a 23-6 season.
