Teams: Seeger, Covington, Rossville, South Vermillion, Carroll (Flora), Fountain Central
Last Year: Last season, Covington finally was able to get over the hump and get their first Sectional Championship since 2019-10. They had struggled against Lafayette Central Catholic the last two years but restructuring really helped out. They had to win three games to make it through and they were very close in a fairly competitive Sectional. They won all three games by a combined 19 points. However, Seeger had the best record overall and had a great season. Overall, the Sectional got tougher as the season went on with Carroll and South Vermillion playing their best ball going into the tournament.
Contenders For 2016-17: This upcoming season will be interesting as Covington, Seeger, and South Vermillion lose so much of their roster. Covington was hit hardest as Ryan Fletcher and Halen Noble, both players with size, graduated and then Griffin Spring, one of their best offensive players, transferred. No, Ollie Pettit is the only returning scorer that has a chance to help this team from last year. They will need a lot to step up. However, expect Rossville to be pretty solid still. They lost Enrique Rangel (16.2 ppg) and Christian Howard (9.7 ppg) but they return possibly the best talent in the Sectional in Blake Miller. Also, Carroll (Flora) could and should compete at the top. Carroll did lose some of their best players but they had a lot of guys that contributed last season that are back and will have a chance to step up.
Players To Watch: The guy to watch is going to be Rossville’s Blake Miller. The 6’3 guard is one of the better scorers in all of 2A and he’s going to be given every opportunity this season to push that 15.9 average to more like 20. Rossville has the best core group returning and a lot of the pressure is going to be on him to produce early and often. If he steps up, Rossville likely wins the Sectional. If not, it could be a rocky road this year.
