Teams: Hammond Noll, Bowman Academy, River Forest, Boone Grove, Whiting, Gary Roosevelt, Lake Station
Last Year: This past season was a good year for the Sectional as a whole. You had a lot of success including seeing four teams over .500 and another right there in Whiting. Hammond Noll almost nailed down 20 wins and beat Bowman Academy on their way to their Sectional Championship. They eventually lost to Fort Wayne Canterbury in the Regional Championship.
Contenders For 2016-17: For as good as this Sectional was last year, this season is going to be flipped a bit. Boone Grove lost everyone from last year, Lake Station is going to still have an uphill climb from two wins, and Gary Roosevelt, while talented, lost some of their top players in Chris Porter and Jaleel Carson. Bowman Academy should look to get back to their old ways as they will rebuild with youth and they have a chance with a likely down year for the Sectional. Hammond Noll is losing quite a bit as well as four of the top five scorers are gone. However, they will be in a similar spot as Bowman in that they will be young and talented and past success will likely give them a chance again this year. River Forest as well could compete at the top of this Sectional but it isn’t likely to have four teams over .500 again.
Player To Watch: There are a couple guys to watch this season. The first is Corey Landers at Hammond Noll. The 6’2 wing scored 8.0 points a game for them last season and is the top returning scorer. If Noll is going to be back in action this season, Landers is likely going to be the big offensive weapon. The other guy is Deon Moore of Gary Roosevelt. The 6’1 point guard is talented but he got overshadowed a lot last year with the plethora of weapons on the wing. He’s going to finally have to step up and take control of this team. He’s the catalyst that could push Roosevelt into big contender for this Sectional.
