Ball State University, Belmont University, Bradley University, and Maryville College all have contacted him with interest. He does not have any offers quite yet but he does have two upcoming visits scheduled; one to IPFW on October 20th, and another to Ball State the 22nd.
Lairy raised his stock this summer with the AAU season. Although Lairy says it did not go as planned, they beat some very talented teams.
“The best team we best was Atlanta Express, which is a team on the Under Armour Circuit. I mean, we made it to the semi-finals in most of our tournaments. We grew together as the season went by and we improved tremendously from last year.”
Lairy being a small point guard knows that there are some improvements he needs to make in order to get to where he wants to be at the next level. These changes are evident as he already has been putting them into work.
“I have been lifting weights and drinking protein shakes trying to put on more weight. So far, I have put on eight pounds. I workout every day trying to improve my shot off the dribble and to create space for myself by developing a step back to shoot over taller defenders. I have been working on finishing at the rim and one of the biggest things I have been doing is conditioning and taking care of my body. I ran cross country to stay in shape and it helps tremendously.”
This year, Lairy says the team is really looking forward to the game against New Albany and their goal is state. Last year they excelled in everything they did, and made it to state. Bosse is looking to do the same this year.
Lairy is excited about the upcoming college search and although he is unsure where he wants to attend he knows what he is looking for in a future school.
“I am looking for something that is going to push me hard every day on and off the court. A college that not only cares about basketball, but your books too. I am looking for a college that best fits me.”
