Continue ReadingAn unknown commodity in the Wabash River Conference will be unearthed this upcoming season. Rockville High School has known about him ever since his middle school days and with his upcoming senior year on the brink, Lance Hopkins is ready to shine.
He made leaps and bounds last year as he became more comfortable in his body and revealed a better mid-range jumper; this year he is expected to shine. Hopkins game is built on attacking the rim and his versatility as he really can play almost any spot on the floor. His vertical is going to be the best on the court when he plays, as is his athleticism. Last year he averaged 15.5 PPG and 7.4 RPG, this year you can expect both of those totals to climb close to double-double numbers.
This summer Lance ran with Three D out of Terre Haute and feels as if he should have been more aggressive in games. He also thinks he could have shown his outside shot a little bit more this summer.
In the coming months, Lance has plans to visit Danville Community College (IL.), University of Indianapolis, and University of Southern Indiana but holds no offers quite yet. We can expect that to pick up during the winter months especially in the D2/D3/NAIA ranks.
His interest will climb as he has been working on his weaknesses and plans to continue doing so through the fall and winter.
“This summer I focused a lot on getting shots up, I was always making sure to get reps on our shooting gun throughout the summer. I also did a lot of weight training and cross fit. This fall and winter I plan on staying on the gun to better my shot and working more on my dribbling which I have been doing a lot of lately.”
All of this should lead to a great senior season for Lance who has high hopes for the season along with his teammates.
“Our goals as a team include, being undefeated in our conference, going as far as possible in the Wabash Valley Classic, winning the banks title, and ultimately winning our sectional and advancing as far as possible throughout the state tournament. A goal expected and heavily preached by our coaching staff is to come in and treat everyday like our last day to play and work hard and motivate each other from whistle to whistle.”
Lance will be sure to garner some more attention this coming season and he has an idea of the type of college that he is looking for.
“The ideal college in my opinion would have to be a college that offers a coaching staff that is constantly pushing me to become the best possible player I can become. I would like to be a part of a program that would push me to compete with my teammates to earn my position on the squad. I am always up for competition and consider myself a very hard worker.”
