Kosiak played with the PBC Knippling 17U squad from April to July and had a fantastic experience.
“I had a great summer playing AAU with the 17U Pentagon team,” said Carter. “My Coach, Cole Knippling, was fantastic. He helped me improve my game both on the block and around the perimeter.
“Traveling to the large tournaments and being exposed to such a high level of basketball helped me gain a new level of confidence. I am excited to take what I learned in the summer into the upcoming high school season.”
Kosiak is a part of a talented Knights senior class that includes Augustana bound Matt Cartwright, fellow forward JP Costello, and versatile Joey Messler.
“My personal goals for this season are fairly simple,” Carter said. “I want to be a member of the starting lineup for O’Gorman High School and help my team win the state title. I’m not entirely focused on being the top scorer every night.
“I want to help my team so that we can win together and become successful together. If that means I have to carry the team and score big one night; then be the guy who makes a great assist the next, I’m willing to do that.
“We have a lot of work to do as a team to be able to accomplish a state championship. Even with a large number of seniors on our team, many are new to the varsity court. We have to be ready and willing to step up our games if we want to be successful.”
Kosiak turned a corner as a junior playing in a big frontcourt that included Costello as well as graduated forwards Ben Lauer and Jimmy Burma.
“My junior year was the year I really developed my game,” Kosiak said. “Looking back, I am aware of how far I have come in just this last year and am excited for the future.”
The list of schools calling the long power forward is an interesting group.
“I have been contacted by several schools for basketball,” said Carter. “Doane University in Crete, Nebraska, Embry Riddle in Prescott, Arizona, Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, South Dakota, Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND are the most recent contacts.
“I am in process of finding a school that supports my academic interests. The coaches have been great to work with, and I am definitely excited about the possibility of playing college basketball in the future.”
Kosiak will soon be talking visits to see several of the schools calling on him.
“I’m headed down to Prescott, Arizona next week to visit Embry Riddle,” said Carter. “I’m very interested in their superb academic reputation as well as their athletic program. Additionally, I’m headed to Doane University and the University of Mary in the coming weeks.”
