Fiegen made this impression after a summer of constant baseball at night, and regular hooping in the morning.
“I play Sioux Falls West Legion Baseball six days a week in the summer, but take time to attend open gym at Roosevelt four mornings a week and I played a few times with Roosevelt in the Pentagon Summer League,” Fiegen told PHD about his summer.
“After baseball season, I had the opportunity to play open gym with Augustana University players. It gave me a great opportunity to play at another level, have a more competitive workout and improve my game.
“I receive individual and team instruction from Sanford Pentagon’s Basketball Coordinator Allan Bertram. I also have attended a few Warwick Basketball clinics in the past to help improve my game. We are fortunate to have great coaches and facilities/basketball programs in our area.”
Roosevelt High wants to make it back to the state tournament. The expectations from others aren’t as high as some other schools in Sioux Falls but with Alex returning the Rough Riders have big expectations for themselves.
“My goal is to qualify for the State AA Basketball Tournament again,” said Fiegen. “I will need to be a strong leader this year as the only returning starter and be able to help encourage our younger players.
“Our team will need to step up our defensive game, become better at rebounding the basketball, and be able to run Coach Begeman’s offense well. We have a lot of talent and l looking forward to putting it all together.”
Fiegen wants the taste of playing in the state tournament again.
“I had the opportunity to take a few big shots at the end of games that helped us get some big wins, and that always gets the adrenaline going,” Fiegen said.
“I played a lot of lock down defense on some of the toughest opponents last year. The highlight was qualifying for and playing in the State AA Basketball Tournament.”
Fiegen is a talented athlete but he wants to play basketball in college.
“NAIA and Junior College programs have shown interest in me for basketball,” Alex said. “At this time, I am focusing on playing college basketball, my passion.
“My goal is to play for a Division II or NAIA college program in South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, or Nebraska. “
