Continue ReadingAlex Falender is an undersized PG in the 2017 Class standing at 5’9” but has a good pace to his game and plays hard from tip to final buzzer. He is gearing up for a solid senior season with Carmel High School. Falender ran with Grassroots Indiana White 2017 this summer and continued to develop his game. Watch for Falender and Carmel to have a strong season.
Falender was proud of the progress that his team made this summer knocking off some teams in tournaments that people had picked over them. “My team and I made it very far in a lot of tournaments where people didn’t expect us to even make it past the first round.” Along with this being a successful team summer, Falender had this to say about his game, “My shot improved greatly and my confidence has improved a lot more. I’m getting the confidence to do more with the ball whether it be shooting it or make a play by getting to the basket or dishing it out”. He knows he needs to be able to knock down he big shots but also be able to create off the bounce.
Along with working on having the well-rounded game, Alex also excels in the classroom (4.1 GPA). “I’m looking for a team that is highly competitive and that also has a high academic standard.” With his toughness on the court and mentality off, Falender would be a great fit for programs looking for a hard-nosed, pass-first PG.
Falender currently doesn’t have any offers but has taken a visit to Depauw University here recently. He has also been in contact with Wabash College, Rose-Hulman University, Grand Valley State University, and Kalamazoo College. Wabash has been in to workouts and he talked with Kalamazoo’s staff after attending the Grand Valley State University Elite Camp.
Going into his senior season, Falender has been putting work in to reach some of his individual and team goals this season. “I want to shoot over 40% from the field and get at least 5 assists/game because then I know I’m getting my teammates involved.” Alex has been adding scoring off the bounce to his offensive repertoire. For the team, “we want to limit the other team to about 40 points/game, win the MIC Championship, and win the State Title”. Carmel will have the talent to do so this year as they have other returning veterans and some young talent looking to make an impact this year at the Varsity level.
Falender’s motor and toughness will help him to continually develop. Be on the lookout for Falender and Carmel this season as he looks to add some interest and offers to his resume this year.
