In the second semifinal, the Lakers rallied from a 15-point deficit in the second half to edge the Thunder. Standout 2019 guard Mario McKinney of Vashon erupted for a game-high 38 points to lead the Lakers to the dramatic victory.
Here is a look at the key players from the second semifinal of the Ramey Fall League:
Lakers:
Mario McKinney 6’0″ Vashon ’19: The southpaw scorer tallied an impressive 63 points in the final two games of the tournament. McKinney attacked the basket relentlessly and finished in transition and in the half court. He also sported a feathery shooting touch from mid range and 3-point distance off the dribble.
Malachi Smith 6’2″ Belleville East ’18: A versatile wing player who is physically strong who got buckets getting to the hoop and on short jumpers from the mid range.
Tromon Weston 6’8″ Vashon ’17: The improving big man scored well around the basket and had one of the game’s big highlights with an impressive one-handed tip dunk. He was very active throughout the game.
Malachy Simpson 6’7″ Webster Groves ’19: A young big who was very comfortable on the perimeter with his ability to shoot the 3-pointer off the catch.
Thunder:
Destan Williams 5’9″ Pattonville ’17: The nifty little point guard had a big game with his ability to push the pace and score at all three levels. He moves quickly, but has the ability to change speeds and directions on the dime and create space to get to the basket and knock down jumpers.
Jordan Yates 6’3″ Belleville East ’18: A blue-collar post player who was a wrecking ball in the low blocks with his physical strengths. Yates got plenty of work done on the offensive boards. He plays a lot bigger than his actual size because of his strength and high motor.
Caleb Love 6’2″ CBC ’20: Very talented freshman with nice size and good fundamentals. Caleb displayed the ability to handle the ball and get buckets. He can make perimeter shots and he played well without the basketball.
Mike Sanders 5’9″ SLUH ’18: A nice shooter from 3-point distance off the catch, Sanders spent a lot of time being a facilitator and finding teammates. He also competes hard on the defensive end.
