Conference Commentary
State Contender: Sioux Falls Christian, Tea Area, Vermillion
This race is shaping up to be something exciting in all ways: conference, regions, state, etc. Who is the favorite? I doubt you can call any one team a favorite, it’s more like a group. SF Christian, Tea Area, and Vermillion are all in that group. Vermillion got a big time boost when AJ Plitzuweit came to town as this young man is much more talented than many expected. Add him to Cooper Williams in the backcourt, Riley Peters back up front, the talent is there. SF Christian is the defending champion and the talent is still there to make another run with Oppold and Fysktra as forwards and then you have Tea Area with the Freidel brothers leading the way, they are a favorite too.
Top Ten Right Now: Dakota Valley, Dell Rapids, Madison
These teams will also be right there when the regions, conference, and state berths will be decided. All are top ten level in the state, they just may not have the main piece that the top three do. But all of these teams are very good and play team basketball so they have the depth to play with, or beat anyone.
Potential Top Ten: Tri-Valley, Lennox
Tri-Valley will be a tough team with a frontcourt as solid as most and dependable guards. They will need some scoring punch to read that next level. Lennox will depend on some inexperienced guys but is still a quality program.
Compete with Most: Elk Point-Jefferson
Rebuilding: Canton, Beresford, West Central
