Wisconsin Top 250 Expo – 2019/2020 Player Notes
The Prep Hoops Top 250 featured over 100 prospects from the Badger state, many of whom project well to be contributors at the next level. Our Prep Hoops staff, led by Ryan Smith (@TheRyanSmithers), was there to cover the action. See our notes below! We’ll be publishing full photo galleries and more player notes throughout the week. Check out the first and second teams here.
Darryl Brooks – Dominican – Definitely a prospect to keep an eye on, Brooks has outstanding ball skills. Can shake a defender and burst to the rim with ease. Also shows promising on-ball defending.
Peyton Buckley – Rice Lake – Nearly automatic from 17 feet. He’s a natural shooter who can scorch defenses by spotting up or simply pulling up for his jumper right in your face.
James Burks – Another great sophomore who has what it takes to play collegiately. Nearly impossible to keep up with off the dribble. He exudes confidence when he steps on the court because he knows he can exert his will.
Amani Glosson – Milwaukee Academy of Science – May or may not have second set of eyes on the back of his head. Glosson exhibited great passing including one absurd over the should no look for a pretty assist. Not just a facilitator, Glosson is a patient defender who won’t get crossed up by even the shiftiest of moves.
Michael Gorman – Greenfield – Undeniable intensity, especially for a youngster. Coaches will want him in for those late game clutch time moments because they know he’ll leave it all on the court.
Baron Hentz Jr – Homestead – Notice to all defenders: DO NOT let Hentz Jr spot up because he will make you pay. Doesn’t get fooled defensively and possesses good lateral movement to keep up with quick guards.
Brayden Ivory – Kaukauna – Sent a defender flying with a devastating shot fake. Defenders need to be wary or Ivory will make you look silly. Pesky defender.
Jalin Jackson – Wisconsin Lutheran – Jackson has a pretty high arcing shot that is difficult to block. Moves smoothly across the court as if he was on ice skates. Looking forward to seeing him develop over the next couple years.
Marcus Kartes – Rufus King – Sophomore out of Rufus King High School who has extremely quick footwork. Works hard and efficiently on the defensive end. Should develop into a real threat over the next few years.
Reid Larson – Fennimore – Larson has a pretty jumper that you can take to the bank. He frequently disrupts passing lanes with his long wingspan. A player who will contribute on both ends.
Jason Larson – Mount Horeb – The type of player every team needs. Plays with incredible energy and hustle. Plays with an edge and a unfulfillable hunger to win.
Mason Madsen – Bloomer – Madsen is freshman with great length which he uses to pull down his fair share of rebounds. Does a good job at extending possessions by grabbing a collection of offensive boards. Will finish through contact above the rim.
Gabe Madsen – Bloomer – Hard to believe Madsen is only a freshman. He’s already got a silky shot from long range. If he continues to grow he will be a dangerous threat to stretch the floor and wreak havoc offensively.
William Mahoney – Appleton West – It wasn’t hard to find Mahoney on the court because he was literally everywhere. Only a sophomore but Mahoney made plays across the court as if he were senior captain. Nothing to nitpick, current standout, future stud.
Jontae Martin – Martin has that swagger you want on your team. When he has his mind made up, he’s going to do what he wants to do. Great body control around the rim, but can also burn you with a nice jumper from mid-range.
Rocky Martinez Jr – Waukesha West – Will grow into his frame and become a major problem for defenders. He can already burn you with a shot fake and finish nicely. Martinez Jr fooled defenders frequently with a nice driving pull up jumper.
Tyron Melchert – Southwest – Vocal player who improves the play of all his teammates when he’s on the court. He backs up his talk by forcing players to make difficult shots on him. Also a sneaky good passer.
Conner Meyer – Black Hawk – Speedy guy who just bolts down the court for fast break opportunities. Displays great physicality in the post even against larger players.
Logan Morrow – Neenah – Athletic player who will push the tempo of the game if the defense isn’t prepared. A gifted leaper who loves to play up and around the rim.
Adam Phillips – Dodgeville – Investment banker or basketball player? He is money from just outside the paint. Fluid play style and has good awareness as a passer.
Desmond Polk – New Berlin West – Polk is a solid two-way player. Very patient defender; players will need to be especially crafty to get by him. Can hurt you with his distance jumper. Can’t wait to see him develop.
Malcolm Reed – Barneveld – Impressive athlete who can guard smaller positions with a long frame. A major asset for his team on the defensive side.
Troy Reeves – LaFollette – Reeves is a joy to watch. He exudes passion on the court. He’s a smaller guard who moves very fluidly and has a buttery midrange stroke. Can also attack the paint and finish at the rim.
Kendall Rowe – Franklin – Plays with a noticeable sense of urgency. Always looking to push the pace of the game in transition. If you’re a defender you better be ready to sprint back on defense or else Rowe will torch you.
Grant Smith – North Crawford Love his playing style. Smith steps on the court with something to prove. He contests every shot possible and will outhustle defenders to loose balls.
Jacob Toepfer – Lake Mills – Can’t teach basketball instincts like Toepfer. He moves fluidly around the court and ends up in the right spot to stretch the opposition. On defense, Toepfer contests every shot so expect no open looks with him on the floor.
Dion Tally – Rufus King – Don’t let his size fool you. Despite his frame, Tally is more than comfortable pulling up and draining a shot in your face. Surprising ability to weave his way around large defenders and finish under the rim.
