Wisconsin Top 250 Expo – 2017 Player Notes
The Prep Hoops Top 250 featured over 100 prospects from the Badger state, many of whom project well to be contributors at the next level. Our Prep Hoops staff, led by Ryan Smith (@TheRyanSmithers), was there to cover the action. See our notes below! We’ll be publishing full photo galleries and more player notes throughout the week. Check out the first and second teams here.
Isaiah Banks – Vincent – Long athletic build. Displays innate hunger for rebounds. His gifted leaping abilities make him a menace on the glass. Creates extra possessions with his offensive rebounding.
Nolan Beirne – New Holstein – High motor player. Will outwork most players around him. Beirne aggressively hunts down rebounds on both ends of the floor.
Tahjay Blackmon – Waukesha – Brings pace to the floor. Determined playing style often puts opposing defenders in foul trouble. While he’s at excellent at driving to the rim, he can also pull up on a dime. Has collection of impressive post moves including one whirlwind of a spin move.
Phillip Bledsoe – West Bend West – Very reliable defensively. Doesn’t give anything up easily and his active hands continually forced turnovers. Plays with an edge on defense and gives his team an added element of grit. Brings a solid long range game to the table.
Justin Brookens – Vincent – Will be a problem to defend off the dribble because of his flashy handles and effortless shot. His jump shot is smooth and consistent enough to truly scare defenses.
Nathaniel Buss – Verona Area – Moves well with the ball in his hands. Buss has a silky jump shot that is beauty to the eye. Looks like he has clouds in his shoes because he hangs when he jumps.
Ben Ebert – Menomonie – Coaches will love his hustle and physicality. Plays bigger than his size and will rack up rebounds by aggressively going up for rebounds in the paint. Every team needs someone like Ebert who won’t back down to a challenge.
Jalen Dixon – Menomonee Falls – Dixon is an explosive player who can make separation thanks to his burst of the dribble. Gifted athlete who also has a nice pull up that he isn’t afraid to use.
Tyree Ellis – Milwaukee Washington – Ellis threw down a thunderous slam in 2v2 drills which had much of the crowd in awe. While his finishing ability at the rim deserves high praise, he proves to be an asset on the defensive end. Should be playing at next level.
Arman Enright-Contreras – Case – Enright-Contreras will put the opposition in foul trouble. He has a great knack for driving in the lane and drawing fouls. His clean handles make it near impossible for defenders to reach in and grab a steal.
Cam Flowers – West Bend West – A complete package, Flowers can help out his team in a variety of ways. He brings a trifecta of superb defense, sharp ball handling and a nice shot.
Caleb Goldstein – Fond Du Lac – Never quits on a possession and will follow up shots to get offensive rebounds that will give his team extra possessions. Team player who plays with a persistence that can frustrate the execution of opposing teams.
Kyle Goodman – Stoughton – Oh my Goodman can this kid get up and throw it down. Confident in his jumping ability, he will challenge you in the lane. Plays with a physicality that can make opposing players think twice about coming into the lane.
Trey Hake – Sheboygan Falls – Plays with an attitude that you want on your team. Knows how to attack the basket. Assertive driver into the paint where he is capable of finishing and drawing the and-one.
Jacob Hanus – Oakhill Christian – Hanus is a dominant physical presence down low. His athleticism enables him to get gather blocks by the bunches. Hanus is a good finisher at the rim making him a valuable two-way player.
Kenny Holz – Iola Scandinavia – Knows the defense better than they know themselves. Always in the right place to help his team score. A vocal player with good awareness.
Taejuan Johnson – Homestead – Perhaps the best interior defender at the expo. Johnson is a high flyer who may or may not own a timeshare above the rim with all the time he spends there. He had one of the most memorable plays of the day on a Lebron-esque chase down block where he pinned an attempted layup against the backboard.
Randy Johnson – Germantown – A paradox of explosively smooth. Johnson makes the game look effortless as he completed some head turning passes and continually split the defense and took it to the hoop off the dribble.
Jacob Kakkak – Gresham – One of the sweetest surprises of the expo. Despite Kakkak’s size he had one of softest shots in the gym. He’s a multifaceted offensive threat because of his great interior finishing ability and his complimentary midrange jumper.
Sarion Mcgee – Destiny – Has the look and size to play at the next level. Mcgee can assert himself in the paint whenever he wants to. Has a great spin move in the post to shake defenders.
Evan Newman – Indian Trail – Major perimeter threat if left unchecked. He has a sweet shot that will spread the defense and open up passing lanes.
Kieran Rowe – Franklin – Rowe has a dirty crossover that helps him scoot around defenders and create separation. A matchup challenge for defenders as he can pull up and drain it from downtown.
Chaco Saylor – Mauston – Saylor is deceivingly fast which defenses need to be aware off. He also has good court vision and is a solid passer. Will look to spring the outlet pass in transition.
Hunter Schultz – Columbus Catholic – Schultz is the do-it-all swiss army knife every team wants and needs. His high energy on defense constantly forces turnovers. Offensively, Schultz has a very effective three-point shot, but can also drive to the rim and throw down with might.
Ross Waddell – Homestead – Ankles worst enemy. Waddell owns a nasty crossover that opens up space for him to either pull up or drive to the rim. He’s explosiveness off the dribble is very tough to defend.
Tre’ Williams – Westosha Central – I wonder if his parents knew he’d be draining three’s for a hobby when they named him Tre’. Williams is a talented player who is an incredibly versatile offensive threat. He can pass around, dribble through and shoot over every defense at the expo.
