Right now Watertown football is 2-3 with wins on the road and losses at home. There are four high school games left before the playoffs start in late October.
Waege had a lot of football options before he decided on playing for the five time defending national champions.
“I had four offers for football; South Dakota State, Northern Iowa, University of Buffalo, and North Dakota State. I committed to NDSU for football.”
The 6-foot-5, 235 pound senior is the main option back on the basketball team too. Spencer was the second highest scorer and rebounder on the team.
“Our top moments last year would be winning the ESD title, something we haven’t done for eight years,” said Waege.
Watertown basketball does not plan to slow down even though Nate Davis has graduated after a fantastic career.
“We had morning workouts almost everyday of the summer and we went to team camps,” Spencer said. “We spent countless hours in the gym this summer.”
Watertown Basketball feels they can make a run just as well as any other team and if Sioux Falls Lincoln taught us anything last year, it’s that anybody can bring home the gold.
“I guess like every team, our goal is to make the state tournament and make a run in it,” said Spencer said.
“We’ve had talent the past few years, just haven’t been able to finish. And we gotta just play more as a team and look to score inside more then we have in years past.”
With Waege back as the lead guy, expect inside touches on the court before he moved up to Fargo to compete on the gridiron.
