He showed great versatility and aggressiveness that would let him excel at a lower division school. He has had two visits thus far and a slew of other schools contacting him.
“I have had visits to DePauw and Hanover so far and have planned visits for Anderson, Millikin, Franklin, and Manchester. Other schools that have contacted me are Huntington, Wabash, and Saint Francis,” Payton said.
Payton had a great AAU year and he senses that this summer will help him out immensely in his college search and he also believes that he improved in key areas of his game.
“I felt like I had a great summer while playing for PCB 2017. It gave me a chance to show more of my game. I think I improved greatly on my mid range jumper and free throws, while also showing that I can extend out to the three point line. I also felt like I showed that I was able to play against taller players in the post and that I could rebound well against those players.”
Due to these improvements Payton should have a great high school season at Castle. Payton is keeping his college search open and is looking for a school that he can excel at in basketball and in the classroom both.
“I am undecided right now and I am looking for a college with a good basketball tradition and strong academics while having the field that I end up choosing.”
