Davis, a 6-foot-1 guard, helped lead the Kickapoo Chiefs to the Missouri Class 5 state championship game as a junior, then helped MoKan Elite win the coveted Peach Jam title this past summer.
He held six scholarship offers and chose Navy over Army and Missouri S&T, where both his parents played college basketball. The top student in his class of more than 430 students at Kickapoo, Davis said academics were among his top priorities when making a decision about his basketball future.
“The big thing about my commitment was the academics,” Davis said. “Navy is a top ten school in the world, so I knew I would be able to get the education I wanted to have! Navy is a winning program, they have an incredible tradition and they have high aspirations for their team. I’m excited to see how they do this year.”
He joins forward Jared Ridder as the second Chief in the Class of 2017 to make a commitment to a D1 program. Ridder chose Xavier this past summer.
Davis chose Navy over Army, Missouri S&T, Drury, Pitt State, and Southwest Baptist and said he narrowed his list to Navy, Army and Missouri S&T after making visits to all three schools.
“They are amazing schools, but I can truly say this was the only place I wanted to be next fall,” he said.
Davis said he was set on committing before the upcoming high school basketball season.
“I wanted to get it out of the way before everything got crazy, but I also wanted to make the right decision for me and my family,” he said.
