Bennett, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard, Bennett drew offers from numerous NCAA Division I programs, but eventually narrowed his list to four. In addition to Lehigh, Bennett also had UTEP, Florida International and Northern Iowa on his final list.
In the end, however, Bennett said his official visit to the Bethlehem, Penn. campus helped him make his decision.
“There is no other school that I would rather be at and no other team I want to play for,” Bennett wrote on Twitter. “I want to thank coach (Brett) Reed and the rest of the Lehigh staff for making me feel at home and making it the best experience ever.
“Can’t wait to be able to fully grasp this opportunity and make Lehigh my new home.”
Playing on a deep and talented Lafayette team that finished the season 28-4 and as the Missouri Class 4 runner-up, Bennett averaged 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game as a junior while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range.
But this summer Bennett took his game to another level while playing for Oklahoma Run PWP in the Under Armour Association. There he led his squad in scoring at 13 points per game, while shooting 49 percent from the field and led his team with 20 3-pointers in 12 league games, shooting at a 36 percent clip from long distance.
His commitment to Lehigh even drew a shootout from alumn and current NBA guard CJ McCollum on Twitter.
