A 6-foot-6, 230-pound senior, Emmert is a four-year varsity player for Bolivar head coach Robby Hoegh. Emmert had offers from Southwest Baptist University, Nebraska Kearney, Missouri Souther, Missouri S&T, William Jewel, Grandview and Drury. He took official visits to officials to William Jewel and Central Missouri and later narrowed his list to Southwest Baptist, Nebraska Kearney and Central Missouri.
“I loved the campus and most of all the players,” he said. “They were the kind of guys I would look forward to playing. They all made me feel like “one of their guys” before I even committed. Coach Doug Karleskint and coach Chris Richardson were guys I wanted to see everyday.
“I see myself fitting in well with UCM. They run a good motion offense with a lot of potential for someone like me trying to play the stretch 4 position.”
Emmert said he wanted to commit before the season and his visit to the Warrensburg campus helped him make his decision official.
“I fell in love with UCM as soon as I got there,” he said. “I wanted to commit before season, but it helped that everything was perfect there.”
He said the biggest factor in his success was the coaches that have been apart of his career.
“I had the privilege to play for some of the greatest coaches around southwest Missouri — from coach (Brandon) Burgette, to coach Dale Lamberth, to coach Robbie Hoegh,” Emmert said. “They all brought me so far.”
Emmert not only had to choose which school to attend, but which sport to play. A standout tight end, he also received interest from multiple Division I football programs as well.
“I love basketball,” he said. “It is hard when you are getting calls and letters from D1 coaches not to go there, but I decided I needed to follow my heart. God was leading me to play basketball so I went for what he designed for me.”
