The 6’3″ Rogers was the leader of Saxony’s breakthrough season in 2016 when it finished with a 24-5 record and played for a district championship. The held a 19-point lead in the finals against perennial power Charleston before falling in the closing minutes. With most of team’s top players returning, Rogers is quite determined to lead Saxony Lutheran’s rise as a statewide contender.
“It’s been fun to be part of the program building,” Rogers said. “At first, everyone was doubting us and telling us what we can’t do and we prove them wrong.”
Rogers spent the past summer playing with the Rainmakers Premiere 17U team. He showed well on the grassroots circuit while playing against some elite point guards from around the country.
“I loved played AAU basketball, it’s one of the my favorite things to do,” Rogers said. “It shows you different things that you’re used to seeing and you see a more diverse group of players and styles of play.”
At 6’3″, the talented southpaw is one of the bigger point guards in the Class of 2017. He puts that height to good use as he can operate just about anywhere on the floor.
“Being a big point guard is good because I can see the floor and see over everyone,” Rogers said. “When we really need a bucket, I can always go inside and post up.”
Rogers is an excellent offensive threat who uses his size and physical strength to get to the basket and finish through contact. When he is left open, Rogers also displayed a feathery shooting touch from 3-point range.
“I feel I can get to the rack almost any time I want and I can also knock down shots,” Rogers said. “I also have pretty good court vision and play good defense.
