PHI Top 250 Expo: Top Upperclassmen Wings
This past weekend, the Prep Hoops Indiana Top 250 Expo took place up in Westfield, Indiana at the Jonathan Byrd’s Fieldhouse. Now, we are trying to break down what we saw. The following is a look at some of the best wings we saw in the morning session of 2017 and 2018 prospects.
Javien Langley (6’5 – 2017 – Evansville Bosse). Langley was great all day long. He’s really a guy without a position but the good kind. He attacks, attacks, and attacks. Handles the ball really well and can get into the paint with ease and once there, physically outplays everyone.
Cortney Shorter (6’3 – 2018 – Fort Wayne South). Shorter was another pleasant surprise. Way improved from last winter when I saw him. Bigger and stronger and a good enough ball handler to bring it up and drive. Athletic ability makes him really tough to get in front of. Creative in the lane.
Anthony Barnard (6’5 – 2018 – Kokomo). Barnard is one of my guys to watch this winter as he showed a little bit of everything this weekend. He’s a wing that shoots it, scores it, and rebounds it. He looks like he can be a guy that is about to take off. Has the potential to track this winter.
Daulton Blackwell (6’5 – 2017 – Mitchell). Blackwell shot the ball a little better this weekend. The tall guard has a ton of potential and his shooting is key. When he looks like he did at times this weekend where he makes it off the catch he can be a high-end player.
Caleb Coleman (6’6 – 2017 – Hammond). No denying Coleman’s upside. The 6’6 wing has boundless athleticism and with his handles, he can do a lot of the damage on the perimeter creating for himself and the getting in the lane. Jump shot from three can take a step forward and really round out his game.
Dwayne McClendon (6’4 – 2017 – Hammond). McClendon looks like a really undervalued player in this class. Big, strong wing with some athleticism and versatility. Can play inside and out and defensively, his value is high. Offense could use a jolt but doesn’t deter from the overall value.
Glen Rouch (6’6 – 2018 – Boonville). Rouch is a big wing with a good shooting touch from deep. Handles it okay from the perimeter and gets into the lane a bit. Isn’t the fastest guy but size, strength, and shooting make him a really intriguing player.
Gavin Collier (6’4 – 2017 – Avon). Collier is one of the better shooting options in the 2017 class. Thin frame but tall and as long as you feed him, he is dangerous. If he adds more of a dribble-drive game, his value could really shoot up. Very underrated in the class.
