PHI Top 250 Expo: Top Upperclassmen Guards
This past weekend, the Prep Hoops Indiana Top 250 Expo took place up in Westfield, Indiana at the Jonathan Byrd’s Fieldhouse. Now, we are trying to break down what we saw. The following is a look at some of the best guards we saw in the morning session of 2017 and 2018 prospects.
Jordan Bechtold (5’10 – 2017 – Columbia City). Jordan did pretty well on the day as a shooter. Love his toughness and the fact that he has strength on his frame even though he’s a little shorter, and he does so without giving up speed. Tough guard in 2017 class.
Trenton Miller (6’3 – 2018 – Pendleton Heights). Miller was one of the many shooters that had pretty good days. Miller looked great off the catch. He’s healthy now and looking like a really good two-guard shooter in the 2018 class. Got hot quite a few times on the day.
Parker Manges (6’2 – 2018 – Homestead). Manges was just ridiculous the entire day. He hit almost everything on the day and had at least one game, maybe two, where he hit eight three-pointers. Not to mention he showed that he could put it on the deck a bit.
Christian Harvey (6’0 – 2018 – Richmond). This was really my first lengthy view of Harvey and I walked away impressed. The 2018 guard was stellar attacking off the dribble and getting at the rim. Loves to draw contact and finish through it. He’s a going to be a name that jumps on the scene very quickly.
Brigham Booe (6’1 – 2018 – Northview). Booe is a tough, rural area guard that can get into the lane well and finish through contact. Love his toughness in games like this. Booe sees the floor pretty well and can run the point really well. Low risk kid with some upside as a scorer.
Cameron Simmons (6’4 – 2017 – Traders Point Christian). Simmons has a lot of things going for him. He’s a tall guard that can stick at the point in college, he’s smart, he sees the floor, and he can shoot it a little bit. He showed a little bit of that but he has a lot more left in the tank.
Peyton Trexler (6’3 – 2018 – Southwood). Trexler was one of the bigger surprises this weekend as he made plays on both ends of the floor. Tall guard who can add strength quickly. Attacking mentality and a guy who gives you a ton of energy.
Jordan Webb (6’0 – 2018 – Covenant Christian). Webb is the definition of toughness. Big, very strong guard who loves contact and creating at the rim. His game was a lot of driving and normally that results in free throws. He showed an improved first step and little bit better ball handling.
