King, Peters-Smith Key To Success
It isn’t a surprise that the 6’8 duo of Alex King and Stephon Peters–Smith are the key this season. They give this team a size advantage against almost every other opponent on their schedule. King is coming back from a back injury he suffered this spring and should be good to go now. Stephon is a guy who has a lot to prove this season as a guy that could start producing at a higher level. If these guys get on track and stay healthy, this team will have a chance and compete much like they did at the end of the year.
Junior Class Will Play, Bring Stability
The junior group for Columbus North is big and they will be a big part of how this team plays this season. Jaylen Flemmons, J.D. Harris, and Trey Vincent will all either start of put up big minutes all season long. Vincent and Harris can do some damage in the backcourt and Flemmons gives a little size and skill to the wing. Those three will give this team the core for not only this season but next.
Mitchell Could Jump Into Spotlight
Senior post Ethan Mitchell will be a big part of this team from the standpoint of post play. While they have a pair of 6’8 forward, those two prefer to play more away from the basket while Mitchell is a natural on the low block. Allowing that comfort level for each of the big three will add more size to the starting lineup and hopefully more success. Going 6-8, 6-8, 6-7 at your 3-4-5 is something not a lot of teams can say no matter if they are a 4A school or not. Mitchell is a guy that could be a priority for opposing defenses. He’s functional and can score with either hand and loves to play with his back to the basket. If he gets fed down low, he’s decently tough to stop.
