Jacob Gilyard 5’10” Barstow: The consummate point guard who facilitates and makes his teammates better, but can also get buckets when he needs to. Gilyard understands how to play his position and he makes sure that all of his teammates get fed. He is quick and can really push the pace on offense and can knock down 3-pointers. He is also a winner, having won a state championship at Barstow as a freshman and several grassroots championships with his Run GMC squad. Gilyard has committed to Richmond of the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Daniel Farris 5’11” Vashon: “Peanut” enjoyed a excellent summer with his Gateway team, which had a nice run in the Adidas Uprising Gauntlet Series. Farris is a physical guard who has the ability to get to the basket and score in traffic almost all will. During the summer, he did an outstanding job of getting the ball in the hands of his talented bigs and potent wing shooters while still being a viable scoring threat. He will be a four-year starter as he returns to lead Vashon in its quest for another Class 4 state title. He has offers from Eastern Illinois and UMKC and has interest from schools such as Austin Peay.
Curtis Lewis 5’10” Pembroke Hill: Lewis is small in height, but he is powerfully built and an explosive athlete to boot. He can windmill dunk with ease. He has nice handles and the quickness and strength to get into the lane at almost any time. He is an excellent finisher in the land of the giants with his strength and ability to create shots at different angles. Lewis can also drive and find open teammates after drawing a crowd. Played for MoKan Select for much of summer, before joining the powerful MoKan Elite team for the last part of the July evaluation period.
Isaiah Wilson 6’0″ Father Tolton: A young man who displayed a nice set of handles and creative scoring ability. Played for Team Rush during the summer. He is a very good floor leader who knows how to facilitate and operate with a talented team. He was the point guard of a state-champion Father Tolton team that featured five-star recruits Michael and Jontay Porter. He knows how to score when he calls his own number. Has the ability to create space with his handles and knock down 3-point jumpers off the dribble. Will score a lot more as a senior with the Porters having moved to Seattle.
Destan Williams 5’9″ Pattonville: An exciting small guard who plays with a lot of pace and keeps the game at a fast tempo. Williams is a tough cover because of his quickness and his ability to get buckets at all three levels. He operates the pick and roll about as well as any guard on the state. He can get to the rim with quickness, stop on the dime and hit the mid-range jumper and shot the 3-pointer with good accuracy.
William Rogers 6’3″ Saxony Lutheran: One of the biggest point guards in the Class of 2017, Rogers is the catalyst behind the emergence of the Saxony Lutheran program. Was very impressed with his play this summer with the Rainmakers Premiere. He uses his size and strength to his advantage as he can get to the basket. He is always under control, but he gets where he wants to go. Has the ability to post up smaller guards and score in the lane. He can also knock down open 3-pointers off the catch.
Chase Thomas 5’10” Hickman: An excellent small guard with good quickness and the ability to change directions and make plays on offense. Has a lot of offensive ability. I like he he can get in the lane and hit a pull up jumper with good elevation. He knows how to separate and get his own shot against pressure defense. Spent the summer playing for the Alabama Celtics. He also has very good 3-point shooting range.
Jarvarcus Word 5’8″ New Madrid Central: One of the smallest point guards in the class, Word was excellent this summer while playing for the SEMO Bulls. He loves playing with pace. The faster the tempo, the better he likes it and he doesn’t get out of control with it. Word was tough to deal with in pick and roll situations because he can turn the corner and get downhill into the opposing defense in a hurry. Plus, he can finish. He could also stop on a dime and knock down the short jumper. His 3-point shot has continued to emerge as well.
Brian Blanks 5’9″ Raytown: A physical point guard who started slow after missing much of his junior season with an ankle injury. His combination of quickness and physical strength makes it hard for opposing defenses to keep him out of the lane. When he gets there, he can finish at the basket or find the open teammate for a layup or a perimeter jumper.
Josh Nunn 5’10” CBC: Another guard who knows how to operate in a pick-and-roll offense. He is a very good ball handler and passer, but he can really shoot the basketball. Nunn can come off the high ball screen and knock down the 3-pointer or he can play off the ball and knock down long jumpers off the catch. Did a nice job for the Missouri Hustle Central during the summer. Played well while backing up current Indiana State freshman Jordan Barnes at CBC last season. Will step into a prime-time role as a senior floor leader for the Cadets.
