Rodriguez is a three spot athlete who spends his three summer months dabbling in all three sports (baseball, football, basketball).
“My summer was good,” said Rodriguez. “I played a lot of baseball, went to some football camps, and every now and then shot the basketball around. Did quite a bit of weight training as well.”
At the moment Nate is a part of a 3-0 Hi-Liners football team that has blown out all of their opponents by a combined total of 16 touchdowns.
Valley City has things going in football as they will be a contender. After that Rodriguez wants basketball success. Last year they were 8-7 and ranked in the PHD top ten.
The Hi-Liners had good wins over Fargo North, Fargo Davies, and Sheyenne but they lost the EDC Tournament Play-IN game to Fargo South and it meant another year of missing the tournament.
“Not this year,” is what Nate is thinking.
“The goal for this season would be to make the EDC tournament,” said Rodriguez. “I’ve been on varsity since my freshman year and have never been to the EDC tournament. Missed out on a good opportunity last year.”
And how does the team get there? Having himself back with Levi Nix and Hunter Burchill is a good start. Playing together is another big piece.
“The team just has to buy in on what the coaches want to do. We did that good last year, but we just didn’t play well enough to win that play in game.”
Rodriguez is also starting to think about college sports and right now two schools are calling the most about him playing some sport for their program.
“Valley City State and Minnesota State-Moorhead have probably shown the most interest, but there’s been more schools contacting and stuff too but those two are the top two,” said Rodriguez.
“Right now I don’t have any visits planned. Not really sure where I’ll visit either.”
