“I got invited to and will be attending the DePaul and University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) camps this weekend,” said Pinkley via text earlier this evening.”
The 6-foot-8 forward, Pinkley thrived with Jets Ramey United AAU the last two years. As a forward, Pinkley can score around the rim or step out and hit. His energy in traffic makes him a difficult mark.
Beyond all his AAU success, Pinkley still has two seasons remaining for Hillsboro Senior High School. Where will he study after that?
“I have been hearing from (UIC) for about two or three weeks now,” said Pinkley. “They really liked the way I played and they invited me to their camp.”
Sunday afternoon Pinkley will play for both notoriety and possibly an offer.
“I have heard it is a great program,” said Pinkley. “I have heard their academic ranking is very high.”
In June Gavin Pinkley camped with Illinois State, Drake, Eastern Illinois, SIU-E, and SIU-C.
Is there a special investment required during camps? Does Gavin have a different mindset while camping, as opposed to competing on a team?
“I just try to play the way I know how I know how to play,” said Pinkley. “I play hard and go 110%.”
In two weeks Pinkley will once again camp near the northern Illinois border.
“Northern Illinois said they would give me a tour,” said Pinkley. “I will be going there, not this week, but the next week.”
The Missouri-native would like to attend college within a reasonable distance to his family. Though the city size doesn’t matter, Pinkley sees distance as a relevant stipulation.
“I am just looking for a place where I can connect with the coaches,” said Pinkley. “Place or size doesn’t really matter. It is important to be close with family. I want to make sure they are comfortable with everything.”
Several Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) and Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) teams continue to track Pinkley.
Add UIC, DePaul, and NIU to an expanding list of Illinois State, Drake, EIU, SIUE, and SIUC.
And the Gavin Pinkley Roadshow continues.
