We caught a glimpse of him at the state tournament last March, and he was at times dazzling. Still though, the bouncy and long 2017 has seen zero interest come his way from college coaches.
Perkins mentioned to PHIA his strong desire to play hoops at the next level, and he’s going to take matters into his own hands with his recruitment.
“Once school starts I’m going to meet with our tech guys and make a highlight tape of my junior season and send that out to some schools that might have some interest in me,” said Perkins, who mentioned Southeastern Community College and Kirkwood as specific schools he will be sending his tape to.
It could behoove those college coaches to take notice of the talented senior. A good-sized and skilled guard who can do a little bit of everything.
“I’m a good 3-point shooter and I like to attack the rim and dish it off and assist. I try to be a good all-around player. And if my basketball coach needs me to go in the post and rebound I’ll do that, and if he needs me to play guard I’ll play point guard,” said Perkins.
“I need to work on my ball-handling, getting stronger, and my finishing.”
Last season Pekins was a key piece to the Bears’ state tournament team, averaging 10 points, 3.6 rebounds and a handful of steals per game.
This season the Bears will look to rebuild, and Perkins will be the focal point of the squad.
“I definitely have to step-up because we’re a really young team. It’s kind of like a rebuilding year but I still think we’ll be able to make a deep run,” said Perkins.
“I want to get my field goal percentage up, and more assists and more rebounds. I want to be an all-around player that can do everything for my team.”
