Davies is a strong favorite in North Dakota’s Class A this year because they return so much talent from their 21-6 team. Much of that talent (Paper, Ty Setness, Andy Bear, Matt Veit, Jaden Klabo) returns including six of their top eight from last year’s rotation.
The Davies group has an edge on many high school teams as they played together in local Grassroots events earning 14 wins in 20 games. They also won the Courts Plus Championship in Fargo which was a 10-11 game league.
“The best experience for me (with D-17s) was just the opportunity to play with my best friends,” said Paper. “To build off my teammates and to gain experience through all the years with the same team is what allowed me to become a better player.”
What is next for this group that is 100 percent focused on their goal of a state title?
“My team and I are going to continue to train and go to open gyms to get us ready for the upcoming season,” said Paper.
In the meantime Jake is also focused on college basketball and what it holds for him in the future.
“Minot State and Jamestown have contacted me from North Dakota,” said Paper. “I have also visited with South Dakota School of Mines and have a future visit with U of M-Duluth.
“I am visiting with the University of Minnesota-Duluth this week and some other college visits still need to be planned. I’d like to visit with most of the schools that have an interest in me.”
Paper shot 61 percent from the field last winter on nearly 300 attempts, is a 70 percent foul shooter as a big, and he made 35 percent of his shots at the arc where he takes two or three a game.
