However, there were few, if any teams, that played harder than the Missouri Gym Rats from start to finish. Regardless of the competition or the score of the game, the Gym Rats brought maximum effort to the game, which made them a pleasure to watch.
The Gym Rats also had some good players who will be playing at the collegiate level in the future. Here is a look at some of their top players:
Garrett Kesterson 6’4″ Fair Grove: Kesterson was one of the top 3-point shooters that I watched during the summer. He also brings good size to the perimeter. He did an excellent job of coming off screens and letting fly with a quick release from long distance. He moves without the ball well. Constant motion.
Deontei Johnson 6’3″ Springfield Central: An athletic wing player who was a high energy performer at both ends. Johnson attacked the rim at all times against anyone who would get in his way. He was a good finisher on the break with his slashing ability. He was also an excellent defensive player who guarded all over the perimeter.
Anthony Rosas 6’5″ Ava: An important piece of a rugged group of post players that played with high motors. Of the group, Rosas was the best offensive rebounder. He was constantly attacking the boards and getting extra possessions for his teammates.
Seth Viebrock 5’10” Nixa: I was most impressed with him when I watched him at the KC Classic in April. He is small, but he has nice handles and a confident flair to his game. He was fearless in getting to the basket against the bigs and he knocked down jumpers.
Mitch Closser 6’5″ Kickapoo: A very solid post player who had a nice shooting touch around the basket. Another one of the team’s blue collar post inside players who made a positive impact.
Wyatt Cogdill 6’6″ Strafford: A strong, physical post player who had the ability to score inside with both hands. Cogdill played with excellent effort on both ends of the court. He should be a handful as a senior at Strafford.
