Here is a look at some of the top prospects on the KC Pacers 16U team:
R.J. Lawrence 5’11” Blue Springs: R.J. was one of the most impressive scorers from the point guard position in the class. Not only can he score from all three levels, but he could go on binges where he would carry his team for several minutes. The smooth lefty can knock down 3-pointers off the dribble, get to the basket with the float game and make mid-range jumpers while stopping on the dime.
Cecil Lee 6’6″ Park Hill: The long, athletic Stretch 4 really developed well over the course of the summer. During the spring, I saw a young man who played his role as a rebounder and shot blocker. Then, I saw the emergence of a 3-point shooter who is an ideal pick-and-pop player. His length and timing made him an excellent shot blocker. Saw him block five shots in one half. He has a big up-side.
Roman Wilson 6’9″ Park Hill: A 2019 prospect who played with the 15U and 16U teams, Wilson is one of the top young prospects in the state. He displayed his inside scoring chops early in the spring, but with each week, different parts of his game started to emerge. Wilson was handling the ball and scoring off the bounce and dropping 3-pointers with relative ease. Romas has garnered early offers from Wichita State and Kansas State. He will be a definite high-major prospect.
Jeremiah Garrett 5’9″ Bishop Miege: An excellent pass-first point guard who played with a lot of pace throughout the game. Garrett is a sure ball handler who makes everyone better. He has very good quickness, which enabled him to penetrate and get to the basket. He is also a very good shot maker. Garrett is an ideal point guard who knows how to get buckets when needed.
Sam Ward 6’2″ Blue Valley Northwest: A very talented combo guard who plays with a lot of confidence. Ward is a very good ball handler with a bevy of excellent offensive skills. He has good escape dribble moves and can knock down mid-range jumpers and 3-pointers alike. He showed some toughness during the spring when he played with a broken hand. And played well.
Nick Rumbo 6’1″ Staley: He was a solid wing player who provided reliable shooting from 3-point range. He moved well without the ball and was able to find open spots. Kept defenses honest with his shooting.
Mitchell Baack 6’7″ Park Hill: He is a long, post player with a solid set of skills. I was most impressed with his passing ability. He dropped a lot of dimes from the high post. A very unselfish player. He also has a nice shooting touch around the basket.
