One of the highlights of the season was a Final Four appearance at the Mullen’s High Profile Tournament in early July. Several of them play for Hogan Prep in Kansas City, which should be one of the state’s top contenders in Class 3 for the upcoming season. Here are some of their top players:
Damien Daniels 5’8″ Hogan Prep: Pound for pound, Daniels is one of the toughest kids playing basketball in the state of Missouri. Despite his short stature, Daniels is a potent offensive player who gets most of his buckets by attacking the basket. He is a blur in the open court and he is attacking the basket at full speed whether the defense is prepared for him to come or not. He is also an excellent finisher around the basket.
Darryl Wright 6’3″ Hogan Prep: A natural small forward who plays more of a power forward role for this team which is small and built on quickness. He is usually matched up with bigger players, which creates matchup problems with his skill set. He is strong enough to hold his own down low against opposing bigs, but his ability to handle the ball and shoot jumpers makes him difficult to defend.
Rashaan Collins 5’7″ Hogan Prep: He teams with his buddy Damien Daniels to form a quick backcourt during the high school season and on into the summer. A small point guard who keeps the tempo going at a fast pace at all times. He is very good at dribble penetration and can knock down a perimeter. His 3-point buzzer beater to beat the SEMO Storm at the Mullen’s High Profile was one of the big plays of the summer.
Davion Davis 6’3″ Lee’s Summit: An aggressive wing player who is very athletic and tough around the basket. He plays with a high motor, which serves him well as he battles bigger players on the circuit.
Tyrell Rock 6’0″ Ruskin: A small combo guard who keeps in step with his team’s aggressive style as he plays much bigger than his actual size. He plays with high energy and does a nice job of rebounding for a guard his size.
