Jason Montgomery 6’2″ Team Arsenal (Marquette, 2019): One of the best young players I watched over the weekend, Montgomery showcased a variety of skills in leading his team to the championship of the 16U Division. He did a nice job of scoring around the paint, but he also scored on the drive and made a number of 3-pointers. He was fundamentally sound and played well inside against bigger players.
Josh Pritchell 6’2″ South Central Fury (Rolla, 2018): Solid point guard who helped his Fury team to the championship game of the 17U division. He has good size and a nice stroke from 3-point range. He really did a good job of keeping the ball moving on offense. Moves well without the ball.
Isaiah Erving 5’11” St. Louis D1 United (Alton Marquette, 2019): A Missouri kid who attends school right across the bridge in Alton, IL. A talented point guard with a slender build. He is a smooth ball handler who can create separation off the dribble. He is a good passer and a nice 3-point shooter. Led team to the 16U Gold Division title.
Drew Ritter 6’3″ Team Arsenal (Lutheran St. Charles, 2019): A solid wing player who did an excellent job of the perimeter for the 16U Division champions. He was always under control and knew where he wanted to go on offense. He did an excellent job on the drive and he also displayed an excellent mid-range jumper. I liked how he played without the basketball on offense.
Antoine Bond 6’1″ Spartans (Hazelwood Central, 2019): A big bodied small forward who has the build of a tight end in football, but moves up and down the court like a guard. For a kid of his size, he was very good in transition with the ball in his hands. He scored on Euro-steps and also converted several floaters in the lane. Has a nice combination of physical strength and agility.
Fahreed Cheeks 5’9″ Team Arsenal (Vianney, 2019): A quick point guard who plays with good pace. He was a fine catalyst with his speed and quickness in the open court. He did an excellent job of penetrating in the lane and getting the ball to his open teammates. He did a good job of changing speeds and pace on the dribble to keep defenders off balance.
Davion Willford 6’0″ St. Louis D1 United (Riverview Gardens, 2019): A strong point guard with a physical body who helped his team win the Gold Division title in the 16U Division. He was able to use his strength to get to the basket and score in traffic and draw fouls. He was also an excellent defender on the ball.
Jamal Lawrence 6’3″ Spartans (McCluer North, 2019): A long combo forward who plays with excellent activity throughout the weekend. He is a jumping jack around the basket who rebounded and blocked his share of shots. He made some 15 footers off the catch. Has a good up-side.
