Here is a small list of some of those top performers who hope to keep raising their level of play in the month of July.
Caleb Bennett 6’4″ Oklahoma PWP 17U (St. Joe Lafayette, ’17): After leading St Joe Lafayette to the Class 4 state finals, Bennett has done a great job with the Oklahoma PWP in the Under Armour Association league. The athletic swingman is the top scorer in leading PWP to a spot in the UAA Nationals in Atlanta in mid-July.
Levi Stockard 6’8″ Gateway 17U (Vashon ’17) : The big fella enjoyed a big spring with Gateway as their leading scorer and rebounder during the Adidas Uprising Gauntlet Series. He picked up several Division I offers along the way, including Cincinnati, Marquette and Missouri State. He led Gateway to a spot in the Gauntlet Finale in South Carolina.
Steve Dulley 6’2″ NDaGym 17U (Lincoln Prep ’17): Now at full health after some injuries during the season, Dulley has continued to emerged as one of the top all-around guards in the state. His performance at last week’s Mizzou Elite Camp really got the interest of the Tigers’ coaching staff. He is physically strong and with a well-rounded game.
Curtis Lewis 5’10” MoKan Select 17U (Pembroke Hill ’17): An excellent point guard with scoring and playmaking ability, Lewis led MoKan Select to a couple of tournament championships during the spring. He is quick and creative with the basketball and can get in the lane.
Karrington Davis 6’6″ St. Louis Eagles 16U (Chaminade ’18): The biggest stock riser in the state’s 2018 Class, Davis enjoyed a huge tournament at the Nike Memorial Day Classic in Atlanta in late May. He shot the 3-pointer well and got to the basket. He put himself firmly on the national map. He received offers from Saint Louis U. and Middle Tennessee State with more to follow.
Clay Gayman 6’5″ Gateway 16U (Nevada ’18): The athletic power forward introduced himself to the statewide conscience in April by leading his KC Pacers team to the 16U championship of the Adidas All-American Tourney title in St. Louis. Now, playing for Gateway, Gayman has shown the ability to dominate games with his inside scoring, athleticism and perimeter shooting touch.
Jordan Lathon 6’4″ Team Rush 17U (Grandview ’18): The athletic combo guard has continued to rise while playing up at the 17U level for Team Rush. His blend of size, length, skills and athleticism at the point guard spot has put him on the radar of several Division I schools.
R.J. Lawrence 5’11” KC Pacers 16U (Blue Springs ’18): A dynamic scoring point guard, Lawrence has enjoyed a big spring in helping lead the Pacers to a couple to tournament championships. He is quick to the basket and his stop and pop game off the bounce is tough to stop, plus he can knock down 3-pointers.
Destan Williams 5’9″ Jets-Ramey United 17U (Pattonville ’17): The diminutive point guard continues to play well and has elevated his stock to the point where Division I schools such as Oral Roberts and Eastern Illinois are quite interested. He is one of the best in the state at running the pick-and-roll because he can turn the corner, stop and hit the mid-range or knock down the 3-pointer.
Austin Parker 6’4″ SEMO Bulls 16U (Cape Girardeau Central ’18): A very athletic combo forward who has very difficult to match up with. He can play above the rim with his explosiveness, yet he is skilled enough to handle the ball on the perimeter and attack the basket. Led the Bulls to a very successful spring, including a couple of tournament wins.
Davis Aufrembrink 6’1″ Missouri Combat 16U (CBC ’18): This kid is hardly a household name in St. Louis, especially with CBC’s depth of talented guards in recent years. During the summer, he’s proven to be as good a shooter as anyone with his Combat team. He is good for at least three triples a game and he shoots an excellent percentage. Very productive.
Jamonta Black 6’2″ Missouri Hustle 16U (Rock Bridge ’19): There are some talented 2019s in the state, but Black is one that has kind of emerged after being in the shadows. He was really good during the spring while playing up at 16Us with the Hustle. He is smooth, athletic and has a versatile skill set which makes him a potent offensive player. He has several 20-point games during the spring.
